As an ice cream lover, Ragusa
was included in my wishlist. This legendary Italian ice cream is opened in 1932
and located in Gambir, Central Jakarta. In this post, I won't tell you more
about the history of Ragusa cause there are many articles on google about it. I
just share my experience and my opinion when enjoyed the ice cream.
I visited Ragusa Ice cream many times. This time, I visited it when
pandemic Covid-19, so we had to obey health protocols. There was no dine-in, so
I dined in my car. I ordered three best-seller menus such as Cassata Siciliana
(Rp30.000), Spaghetti Ice Cream (Rp35.000) and Banana Split (Rp35.000). What
makes it special is the Ice cream has a unique form with classic taste. It
reminds me of the ice cream when I was in elementary school.
The first menu I ordered was Cassata Siciliana. It
is like an ice cream cake with various flavors in a slice such as chocolate,
vanilla, pandan and strawberry. The second was Spaghetti Ice Cream, the best
seller menu. Like the name, this ice cream form is like spaghetti with vanilla
flavor. It is more mouthwatering with peanut, candied fruit and chocolate sauce
as topping. Last but not least was Banana Split, my favorite ice cream. It has
three flavors, that is vanilla, strawberry and chocolates. I'm so in love with
chocolate flavors. Then, the topping are slices of banana, peanut, candied
fruit and chocolate sauce. It hard for me to find ice cream with candied fruit
topping.
Personally, Ragusa Ice cream is not my type because I like creamy ice cream. Meanwhile, Ragusa Ice Cream has fresh and light taste. But, Ragusa Ice Cream is a good option if I want extraordinary ice cream, especially for the people who like the classic taste. So, my opinion about the taste is I like it, but if I have to choose between creamy ice cream and Ragusa ice cream, I will choose creamy ice cream. Why? Because I like creamy ice cream and everyone has their typical favorite ice cream.
For me, the ambiance is not cozy especially in a pandemic situation. The store has limited space, so many visitors enjoy their ice cream either in their car or on the edge of the river near the shop. Oh ya, if you need salty food to accompany the ice cream, there are some stalls sell traditional food such as Kerak Telor, Satay and Otak-otak.
