Mt. Gede via Gunung Putri |
This
is super late posting actually. Tonight, I wanna tell my special story on 30
November 2017, when I was hiking Mt. Gede. This time, my team consists of 13
members came from Terminal Hujan (TH), one of social organization in Bogor. We
decided to hike Mt. Gede in order to engage our relationship as a new team in
TH. Oh ya, because this journey happened around 2 years ago, I just tell the
main story (I forget the detailed story LOL).

Before hiking at checking post |
Our
meeting point was Kak Ria's house, at Ciawi Bogor. By using two cars, we
started our journey via Gunung Putri after subuh. I forget what time exactly we
arrived at Gunung Putri entrance (checking post). But, we start hiking at 9 am.
Unfortunately, the weather was unfriendly. Although the light rain and dark
cloud accompanied our journey, we still on fire to finish this
adventure. In this post, we were checked by the mountain officers. They
made sure all of the stuff is complete. The important point especially for the
women, they don’t permit to hike in menstrual period because they are in the weak
condition. Moreover, they will get hypothermia easily.

Legok Leunca |
The
drizzle turned to be downpour when we arrived at Legok Leunca. Honestly, I had
a bad signal, I didn’t know what it is. But, I just kept it. Then, we took a
break here. One of my friends, Kak Dev wasn’t feeling comfortable.
Surprisingly, she got menstrual at the moment. We couldn’t do anything. We just
pray all of us can arrive at Suryakencana safely.
Buntut Lutung : Post 2
The
rain was still falling. The fog finally came as welcoming greeting. Our team
divided into several parts. I was in the last team as sweeper. My friend Kak
Dev, who was in a weak condition, in the same team with me. There were the
other members, Kak Hana and Kak Dandy. The situation getting worse. The storm
came, made some branch of big trees broken. “Kretek kretek kretek”, we hear the
broken branch fell. Sadly, we couldn’t walk fastly because the fog made our
vision limited.

The
situation getting worse, the weather and also our body especially Kak Dev.
Fortunately, we met our friend Kak Rifan and Kak Dian. Apparently, they were
separated from the other. The night almost came, but we still on the way to the
basecamp Suryakencana. It was so scared. “I just wanna go home”, I talked to
myself.
Alun-alun Suryakencana
(Surken)
Finally,
we arrived at Surken. But, we couldn’t see anything. Just fog. We were shouting
to find our friends. But, we got nothing. Finally, we decided to build a tent
because of the situation getting worse. Suddenly, we heard our friends shouting
to call us. I was so grateful. We finally could meet each other.
The
girls gathered in a tent and tried to comfort Kak Dev. Her condition getting
down, she had hypothermia. Meanwhile, the boys made the other tent, suddenly
the ranger came. They had to evacuate us because the weather getting worse.
Very very worse. Finally, we had to go back.
Evacuation by the
Rangers
The
evacuation was so dramatic. The broken trees, dark forest, heavy rain, the
storm, slippery track, panic and horrible situation, and the worst thing was
Kak Dev. She had to be carried by the ranger. We fell many times. But I didn’t
care anymore. I just wanna go home. I wanna cry, but I couldn’t.
Morning
almost came. Finally, we arrived at checking post (first post). We took a break
there and changed our clothes. Everything turned better. Kak Dev could smile
again. After pray Subuh, some of us continue slept, while the others started to
made breakfast (FYI, we didn’t have time for dinner before).

Breakfast ala ala |
After
breakfast, we told our story and experience each other. At the end, the fear
gone and we just felt grateful, happy, and we laugh more when we remembered
what happened last night. The main point is : we more understand each other. It’s
okay if we couldn’t summit Mt. Gede. We just want to go home safely. Honestly,
the story is worth it to bring home.

Notes before hiking :
- Consider
the weather.
- Don’t hike in the menstrual period, it can endanger yourself.
- Never forget to pray. We never know what will happened to us.
- Always be grateful, every scene has their own meaning. Although we couldn’t summit, we got more valuable experience.
