Jakarta, 7 October 2017
This was my experience traveled to thousand islands. FYI, a thousand islands is located at North Jakarta. In this
trip, I would visit 3 islands, which is Kelor, Onrust, and Cipir Island. Why did I choose this trip? Because I needed
to refresh my mind but I didn’t have enough time. This trip was one day trip.
So, I could keep my time, my energy, and my budget of course. Wkwkwk.
I joined open trip in Instagram (@kekinianadventure).
I paid Rp 100.000 included lunch, entry fee, and transportation Muara Kamal – 3
Islands. I choose Saturday, because in Sunday is more crowded than Saturday. When
I went there, It was just 40 visitors. On the next day (Sunday), there were
around 400 visitors. I got that information from our tour guide. I wasn’t sure
the number of visitors gap between
Saturday and Sunday almost ten times. I don’t wanna think about it, just let's go to my story!
1. KELOR ISLAND

On the way to Kelor Island, I saw many fish
cages. I had many questions about
those cages. Actually, what is that?
The function? How to build it? How can the fisherman know which are their fish cages, especially in the night? That at in the middle of the sea, not
like at mainland. I have to enrich
my knowledge. It just a simple application of science. But, I still have to
look for the information at Google. How poor I am. From google, I know how
the work process of fish cages. Interesting!

We arrived at Kelor Island by rode traditional
boat. I suggested to visitor to use hat, because it is quite hot. Don’t be
panic if you wanna go to toilet. There are some toilets. The toilets are clean
and free. You also can buy some snacks and beverages because there is a small
store.

Inside Martello Fortress |
The uniqueness of this island is Martello Fortress. For kids jaman now, Martello Fortress is a
good spot to take photo. Mortello Fort has good architecture, although we only
can enjoy the remaining building. In 1840-1880, the function of this fortress
was defensive fortress and look out tower.

2. ONRUST ISLAND
Onrust is the biggest island among these three
islands. The named of Onrust comes from
Dutch which is mean “unrest” in English. Another source said
that Onrust comes from a Dutchman occupant
of this island, Baas Onrust Cornelis van der Walck. After the independence of Indonesia, this island
was used to quarantine hospital for infectious
disease until earlier 1960. Finally,
in 1972 this island was declared as a
protected archeological site (Wikipedia).
If you wanna learn more about history of this
Island, you can visit the onrust museum. Actually, this museum was the doctor’s
house. There are some pictures which are shown on the wall. There is one
picture made me interested. The picture shows us people in the corridor and there is a child in the corner. That child didn’t wear any clothes and
blur. Me and Tifa (my friend) went out from this museum after seen that
picture. We felt suddenly frighten.

Overall, the uniqueness of this island is the
history. You can see the museum, the historic grave, and the remaining building
of the hospital. So, if you want to enrich your historical knowledge, come and
visit this island.
This island makes me so grateful to live in this
era. As a Moslem, we can haj comfortably.
Compare with the people in the past. After did their haj, they have to be quarantined in this isolated island. But, they
still tried hard to haj. Nowadays,
we have sophisticated medical technologies to protect the Haj pilgrims. Alhamdulillah,
“Then which of the
Blessings of your Lord will you deny?” (The Quran, 55:13).
3. CIPIR ISLAND

The remaining hospital |
The last island on this trip. This island’s
size is smaller than Onrust Island, but bigger than Kelor Island. I saw many
fishers here. Same as Onrust Island, Cipir has remaining historical
hospital (continue with Onrust Island). Because this was the third island, all
the visitors included us were tired. The remaining building here similar to
Onrust Island. We just sat while
enjoying the sea. Oh ya, there is banana boat on this island. FYI, the price of coconut
ice in Cipir island is Rp 15.000, (cheaper than Onrust Island Rp 20.000).

Overall, this trip could enrich my knowledge
about history of Indonesia. Unfortunately, these three islands couldn’t make me
want to come back there. I just wanna go there for once, but doesn’t make me addicted
to come again. The highlight of this trip for me is, how hard people in the
past did their haj. So, what is my obstacle to do Haj? Money? Time? Energy? I have to review
my life purpose.
