This is my short story when I visited Baduy Dalam (Inner Baduy) Tribe or
Kanekes, at Ciboleger, Banten. I joined Backpacker Karawang in this trip. Some of
them are my friends, Leli, Hana, Ulya, Erni and Tifa. Let’s hear my story.

I started my trip from my office. After worked, I went to Bogor by
motorcycle. Then, I put my motorcycle at commuter line motorcycle park. I
continued my trip to Kebayoran Station by commuter line route Bogor-Jatinegara,
transit at Tanah Abang station, then continued to Rangkas Bitung. I met Hana
and Tifa at Kebayoran Station. Then, we went to Suzuki bypass Toll Kebun Jeruk,
met with the whole participants from Karawang. Finally, we on the way to
Ciboleger Terminal.

We arrived at Ciboleger almost at dawn. We pray Subuh before
trekking to Kanekes. We started trekking at 08.30 and arrived at
Baduy Dalam around 17.00 WIB. Actually, we could arrive there earlier. But, we
had to shelter at one of the villager house because of the heavy
rain. The soil track was so slippery. I almost fell down. Fortunately,
there was a member (Just called him Mr. Helper) who were help me. It was so
dangerous.
We finally arrived at Baduy Dalam. We changed our clothes immediately
before the sun went down. For your information, there are no electric or
gadget. But, as a visitor I can use flashlight. Never think to use our handphone
or soap (and similar things) here. Gadget and soap or toothpaste are blamed
here. If you wanna go to toilet, just go to the river or the bamboo fountain.
I choosed the bamboo fountain because it more privacy, although it is farther
than the river. The water was so fresh and clean. I like the environment, but
I’m not sure I can live there for a long time. Two days one night are more than
enough for me. Alhamdulillah, I live in a big town with complete facilities.
Alhamdulillah.

At night, we had dinner at the boys camp. We lived at two villager houses.
One for the girls, and one for the boys. After dinner, we introduce each other.
Then, we slept because it was too late and we all were so tired.

We woke up early and prepare ourselves to went home. There was free time.
We walked around the village, saw the houses, people, and bought the souvenirs
made by the villagers. I bought bitter honey (Rp 40.000/bottle), Baduy
hand woven (Rp 50.000), woven for bottle cover (Rp 15.000/pieces), and bracelet
(Rp 10.000/3 pieces). We back to Ciboleger around 09.00 WIB. We
arrived at arounf 15.00 WIB. Unfortunately, we went back to Jakarta lately. So,
I had to stayed at Tifa’s boarding house this night and went back to Cicurug
tomorrow morning.
From this trip, I got some points :
- It’s better if you visit this village not in the rainy season. The track is slippery. You must be careful.
- I could learn from the Baduy tribe, without modern thing you can live happily. They can live without electric, or chemical thing.
- Baduy Dalam wear white headband, meanwhile Baduy Luar wear blue headband.
- Baduy women used natural cosmetic. But, they were so beautiful.
- I was attracted by the bamboo bridge. The bridge was built by bamboo and ijuk fiber. The great Baduy tribe engineers!
