Simpang Lima Gumul (SLG) was built in 2003 and officially operated in 2008. It was built to commemorate Jongko Jojoboyo from Kediri Kingdom (Wikipedia). Located at Kediri, East Java, SLG is the famous icon there. This building similar to Arc de Triomphe in Paris. So, when you take a picture there, you feel like in Paris. Hehehe….
I visited SLG when I took a course at “Kampung Inggris”, Pare. From Pare, you can use the public transportation “angkot”, motorcycle, or car. Never think to use your bicycle (in the beginning, I had a crazy plan to use my bicycle) because it is far. I didn’t have any energy to ride my bicycle from Pare to Kediri. In the end, me and my roommates went by cab. It’s easy to find this place. Just mention SLG to the cab driver, and they will take you to this Indonesia’s Arc de Triomphe.
The relief depicts the religions in Indonesia. There are Islam, Christian, Catholic, Hinduism, Buddhist, and Confucianism. Toleration is an important thing in Indonesia. |
If you wanna go to Simpang Lima Gumul, don’t litter, please. Keep the environment clean and nice.
