Teletubbies Hill in Sleman

This is not an ancient tomb in Korea (Apdokguk) or Teletubbies hill in Bromo, East Java because it looks like a small hill and overgrown with grass. This is Abang Temple (Candi abang). Candi Abang is located in Berbah subdistrict, Sleman district, Yogyakarta. It was built in 9th and 10th century in Ancient Mataram era. This relic is one of the Hindu temple in Yogyakarta. It can be accessed by two or four-wheeled vehicles. Nevertheless, I recommend using two-wheeled vehicle because the track condition not really good especially for four-wheeled vehicle. Just pay Rp 2.000 to park your motorcycle, you can enjoy this beautiful relic (free entry).

The uniqueness of this temple is, it was made from red bricks. Whereas, most of temples in Central Java and Yogyakarta made from andesite stones. In contrast, temples made from red bricks spread in East Java. Then, why Candi Abang which is made from red bricks was made in Yogyakarta? Until now, I can’t find the reason. People named “Candi Abang” or “Brother Temple” because the red bricks (bata merah) in Javanese means brother. So, people called it Candi Abang or Brother Temple.

Candi Abang is a recommended place to spend your leisure time. From this spot, I could enjoy the beautiful scenery of Jogja. I also could see the contrast colour between the blue sky and the green temple.

Keep your environment clean and natural. Don’t litter, please:)
